Extra, Extra: BlackBerries, Wars, and Cancer

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Research in Motion’s day of reckoning is coming up. On January 30, the beleaguered smartphone maker debuts its new BlackBerry 10 line of devices. Early reviews of the software are good, and a US federal agency that abandoned RIM for Apple is now reportedly having second thoughts. It should be interesting to see how things pan out.
  • The Toronto Dreams Project dissects a crowd photo taken at King and Yonge streets near the end of the Great Boer War. It’s fascinating stuff.
  • Princess Margaret Cancer Centre thinks it has discovered why cancer cells are so tough to kill: they play possum. What cowards.

Those new blackberries look great. Hopefully it works out well for them.

It’s funny how Apple is now the company resting on its laurels and selling overpriced phones. (Not that anything they’ve ever sold wasn’t overpriced).

Apple has resorted to the capitalist mantra just get rid of the competition to gain a bigger share of the pie.

Blackberry bit the dust because Apple was making a significantly better and more desirable product. That’s no one’s fault but RIM. I’d like to see them try to make a product as good as Apple does, and the day we see if they can is yet to come.

That day is settled. It’s Jan 30th. And if you still don’t think BlackBerry 10 is AT LEAST on pair with iOS and Android, you have not opened your eyes.
