2012 Hero Nominees: Cityscape

The people, places, things, and ideas that are helping to improve the texture of the city—our neighbourhoods, transit, and sense of place.

Torontoist is ending the year by naming our Heroes and Villains: the very best and very worst people, places, things, and ideas that have had an influence on the city over the past 12 months. From December 10 to 19, we’ll unveil the nominees, grouped by category. Vote for your favourites from each batch, every single day! On December 19 and 20 the winners from each category go head-to-head in the final round of voting, and on December 21, we will reveal your choices for Toronto’s Superhero and Supervillain of the year.

You need to make it more clear how this is supposed to work. People are going to click “Cast Your Ballot” expecting some kind of more conventional poll dialogue, only to discover they have just cast a vote for your default line-up (which just looks like a list of articles).

    • Kroberts

Yep, I clicked “Cast your ballot” – and it just directed me to a page that said thanks for voting, and I was like, hey wait a minute, I haven’t voted yet – now I can’t vote for my choices – I’ve been booted :(

    • Karen

Yep. I definitely just did that.

Message received! We’re working on updated formatting now, should be up within the hour.

In response to your comments we’ve updated the formatting. Let us know if this is clearer!

Not working on iphone interface – I can’t rearrange the order. Also, my friend just cast a ballot for the default order by mistake! Are you going to allow people to revote on this? It seems like many have cast their votes by mistake.

The integrity of this web poll has been compromised!

What does the category “Cityscape” mean? Tough to rank candidates if I don’t understand the category.

  • Anonymous

But all the choices suck… Why is there nothing good on the list? Oh, right, Toronto.

    • PL

No way! I’ll agree that most of the choices are dubious, but not the Pillar Hackers.
      Hacktivist artists 4 teh win!

Ontario Place, hackers, Ryerson, Byford, MLG, Mirvish.

Ontario Place was a beautiful expression that had its time, lots of fun until Labattt’s or Molson got involved and wrecked it; hope OP can have a renaissance. Really, those media pillars are just insulting with their in-your-face pedestrian and vehicle blocking egregiousness. Ryerson seems OK. Mr. Byford seems to have the right tone of voice for his delicate position, plus bald guys are hot. MLG and David Mirvish: who cares! A corporate megastore and the man who builds a theater to tear it down. Will Mirvish build these Gehry condos and tear them down in 11 years?

  • Green walnut

I can’t order them on iPad!

Can I vote Mirvish for Villain? The proposed condos are buttfugly.
