Scene: Zombie Walk 2012

An oddly polite horde of zombies attacked Toronto, for the 10th year in a row.

WHERE: Nathan Phillips Square and surrounding streets.

WHEN: Saturday, October 20.

WHAT: Hordes of undead flowed through downtown streets over the weekend as onlookers, oddly lackadaisical about surviving the apocalypse, hung out and calmly took pictures. This year’s Toronto Zombie Walk was the 10th annual. Check out some of the event’s amazing makeup and costumes in the gallery, above. All the photos are from the Torontoist Flickr Pool.

Why do people think that zombies would have zippers running down the middle of their faces? What possible sequence of events could lead to that happening to a reanimated corpse? Are we supposed to believe that some survivors a zombie apocalypse foolishly tried to defend themselves with a sewing machine?

Ummmm……ok. I thought that particular costume was well done, original and creative, especially compared to the parade of nearly identical ‘zombie brides’ I saw getting onto the Lakeshore East/West Go Train on Saturday (right down to the shade and brand of blonde hair dye). The zombie walk is as much about creativity as anything else it’s about.

I don’t know about original, because it’s totally not.

I won’t criticize the creativity. The participants obviously enjoy participating and making crazy costumes, so that’s cool.

It’s just so implausible; zombie costumes should reward plausibility as much as creativity and originality.

In the end, it’s a costume. Doesn’t matter if it’s plausibile or not. It’s playing dress up and having fun. Doesn’t need to be over-thought.

Oh, and nothing is ‘original’ anymore. But it’s a thousand times better than the Stepford Zombie Bride parade.

“It’s (the costume) just so implausible; zombie (the subject)”

Plausible zombies. Now there’s a concept!

    Ah, the baby!
