    This looks like if you pedal the bikes you can charge your cell phones,
    can anyone confirm this? It also looks like a smart car in the corner,
    maybe it’s a clever advert for Car2Go.

      I don’t see any connection between the bike parts and the wires coming down from above the billboard to whatever that box is in the middle.

      That is a Car2go icon in the corner, though.

        The wheels all have small light motors on them, that should generate power when the wheels turn and they seem to have wires (painted white) running behind the sign. You can see a lot more detail on Flickr. The box in the middle has an iPhone, Mini USB, and small AC cable coming out of it.

      I live down this alley. This section was renovated by Smart Car as an advertisement this summer. It quickly fell into disrepair and looks worse than the graffiti that it covered over. The original concept of this section was that you could charge your phone by turning the bike wheels but that only lasted a couple of days before the cords went missing and the bike chains fell off. It was fixed a couple of weeks later, but didn’t last long. It’s pretty sad looking now.
