Extra, Extra: Nuit Blanche, the Jarvis Bike Lanes, and Mirvish

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Yes, there were a lot of drunk people at Nuit Blanche this year. Even so, there was plenty of beauty to be found on the night, as the video embedded above makes plain. It was put together by a local video production company called Biz Media. [Via Global]
  • Occasional Torontoist contributor Laurence Lui is frustrated by the rhetoric surrounding the impending removal of the Jarvis Street bike lanes. To prove that the lanes haven’t turned the street into a gridlocked nightmare (as some politicians would have you believe), he made this video.
  • David Mirvish wants to develop massive condos on the site of a theatre he owns on King Street West. With a mid-rise condo now under construction right across the street from Honest Ed’s, could that Mirvish-owned business be next in line for redevelopment? Maybe a decade or so from now? It’s an enormous property just steps from a subway station. It has to happen someday.

I’ve long thought Honest Ed’s would be the ideal spot for a large, budget hotel; Honest Ed’s meets the Hans Brinker Budget Hotel, Amsterdam. The store would remain at ground level.
