TTC Statement on the Death of a Worker Overnight
Peter Pavlovski, 49, had been working for the TTC for 22 years.
The TTC has just released the name of and a bit of background about the worker who was killed very early this morning in an accident on the tracks.
This morning, at about 4:45, a Toronto Transit Commission employee was struck and killed by a work car just north of Yorkdale Station. Another employee was injured and sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is now in hospital.
Peter Pavlovski, 49, had been a TTC employee since 1990. He was a Road Master—a subway track and tunnel foreman. The TTC is providing all the support and assistance available to Mr. Pavlovski’s family and co-workers at this very difficult time.
TTC CEO Andy Byford, on behalf of all TTC employees and TTC Chair Karen Stintz, on behalf of her fellow Commissioners, wish to express their sincere condolences to family, friends and co-workers of Mr. Pavlovski.
A crew of seven workers, under Mr. Pavlovski’s supervision, was performing work on the northbound track in the open-cut area of the Spadina subway line north of Yorkdale Station when Mr. Pavlovski and another crew member were struck by a southbound work car. The TTC’s investigation is ongoing, and it is fully co-operating with both police and the Ministry of Labour to understand, fully, the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
