Extra, Extra: A New Indie Radio Station for Toronto, Etc.

- When CKLN, Ryerson’s former campus-community radio station, lost its license to broadcast on 88.1 FM, it was anyone’s guess what would fill up that valuable empty space on the dial. The CRTC entertained 22 separate proposals from a number of different contenders. Today, the regulatory agency announced its choice: Rock 95 Broadcasting will use 88.1 FM to launch a new station dedicated to indie music and emerging Canadian artists. It will be called Indie Toronto.
- The nice thing about being a huge daily paper is that you can devote a ton of resources to making the definitive online interactive record of the 1972 Summit Series, if you want to. This month is the famed Canada-versus-USSR hockey match’s fortieth anniversary.
- What’s the future of transit in Toronto? Monorails? Subways? Zip lines? Nope, nope, and nope. According to TTC Chair Karen Stintz, the answer is more studies.
