Urban Planner: August 23, 2012
In today's UP: join the Zine frenzy with a zine-making party; new art exhibitions open at Gallery 1313; and Toronto's finest comedians make you laugh ahead of the Canadian Comedy Awards.

Tonight, drop in at the opening reception for no less than three exhibitions at Gallery 1313. Image courtesy of Phil Anderson.
ART: While wandering the fine streets of Toronto, have you ever found yourself thinking, why haven’t I been in this neighbourhood before? If that’s you, then you might appreciate an exhibition at Gallery 1313 that highlights parts of Toronto through photography and sound documentation (courtesy of the Toronto Walking Project). Also on display in the same gallery is a showcase of work by emerging artists, and another exhibition called “Dis/semblances,” featuring photographs from different moments in time, altered digitally and then hand-drawn to give the viewer a unique interpretive experience. Gallery 1313 (1313 Queen West Street), opening reception, 7–10 p.m., FREE.
COMEDY: Though the work week is nearly over, let’s face it: you probably need a laugh. And what better place than the Canadian Comedy Awards and Festival? Here you’ll get to yuk it up with the very best in Canadian comedy as the nominees for the Canadian Comedy Awards show you why they were nominated in the first place. Featuring Jape, Stop Podcasting Yourself, Newsdesk with Ron Sparks, and much more. Thursday to Sunday, location and times vary, $13 per show.
