Gearing up for the 2012 Air Show

We get in the air with some of the planes flying in this weekend's Canadian International Air Show.

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a—yup, it’s a plane. Lots of them, actually. And they’re coming to a sky near your for the 63rd annual Canadian International Air Show this long weekend, September 1 to 3.

If you haven’t already heard—soaring jets have been zooming overhead for the past few days—the annual festival of flight will host 12 acts, including stunt pilots, tactical military demonstrations, and the historical ship the HMCS Ville de Québec.

Torontoist got a sneak peek at a few of the event’s main attractions, including a bird’s-eye view of renowned air acrobat Mike Wiskus as he did a preview performance of his signature high-flying barrel rolls. Aerial hijinks in the gallery above.

The HMCS Ville de Québec may not be the newest of warships, but I wouldn’t call it *historical*

Carly might be thinking of HMCS Haida, the WWII destroyer that used to be at Ontario Place (it’s now in Hamilton).

Incidentally, VdQ is joined by a US Coast Guard Cutter, which is a new feature of the annual Great Lakes Deployment.
