Spotted: Protesting Bill 13

SPOTTED BY: simon.carr, from the Torontoist Flickr Pool.

WHERE: Yonge-Dundas Square.

WHEN: Thursday, May 31.

WHAT: Bill 13, a piece of provincial anti-bullying legislation that, among other things, would require Catholic school boards to permit gay-straight alliances, is most of the way through its deliberative process at Queen’s Park. Some people, like these anti-Bill 13 protestors, don’t like that. Is it a parental right to have the option of raising one’s child in a pretend world where gay and transgendered people don’t exist?

These poor oppressed parents can teach their kids (hoping for their sake that none of these kids are LGBT) whatever they want on their own time and dime.

Talked to couple of theses people they think it is all about teaching gay sex to children. Try explaining it them and they just walk away, they do not want to hear anything but what has been fed to them.
Damn scary to think they are raising children, using children as a shield for their own fears and ignorance.

“Damn scary to think they are raising children, using children as a shield for their own fears and ignorance.”

Couldn’t have said it any better myself

    rrrrrrrrright

Making their publicly-funded private schools safe for gay-bashing…

  • JGHali

    No.

But then I also don’t think it’s right that Catholics receive publicly funded religious education. Abolish the separate boards.

Hope they enjoyed their God smiting them with rain today.

Actually it was a Blessing – in case you had not noticed the countryside was very very much in need of rain…but I guess crops don’t need rain to feed the masses.

I wish they’d be honest and carry “We Hate Gays” signs.

I love how all of the RC school system apologists tiptoe around that issue. Instead of “no parental rights” their placards should read “no gay rights”

Where on earth do you get the idea that the protestors hate gays? There is a time and place and correct age to teach children and this has opened the door to all kinds of things. Children are innocent and should not be exposed to reading the crap that is posted on the myGSA websites in the name of antibullying. Most of the stuff I am referring to is for 18+, fyi the age of consent for gays is 18 so how on earth this relates to highschoolers let alone 7 to 8 which are in the elementary school system is beyond me. I have been and will pray for you all. Gaye.

Oh look, it’s someone who thinks GSAs are gay sex instructional courses. Forced on straight kids too, I bet. Oh, and at elementary school! Ha!

      • MER1978

It’s amazing how many false arguments Conservatives come up with when they don’t want to debate the actual issue.

      • Anonymous

So when is it appropriate to teach kids about discrimination?

If the issue was race based would you say the same thing?

  • Anonymous

I think God is a little bit tougher then these people give her credit for. Don’t think he’s all that worked up about the names of groups that promote getting along with others.

  • MER1978

VERY disappointing to see younger people + people with kids at these things.

The question is one of religious freedoms. In a pluralistic society do I have the right to raise my children in the religion of my choosing? Whether Canadian families are Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Hindu, etc should parents be able to send their children to a publically funded school?

If our aim is to leave religion out of Public schools, than the curriculum must not contain material contradictory to the faith systems of a great percentage of Canadians.

Bill 13 opens the door to a curriculum that will teach there are six genders. Please forward me the literature on this scientific discovery.

Furthermore any discussion of homosexuality in a Catholic setting will be in the context of the Catholic teaching, and in Catholic schools relevant sections of the Catechism of the Catholic faith must be read in such discussions. I am happy to let you have my beliefs, but do not legislate that they be imposed on my children.
