“We’re having additional crews go in there to make sure it is safe. I don’t want to be alarmist and I don’t want to create any level of hysteria that the sky is falling, because it’s not. We’re taking action.”

—Minnan-Wong, councillor for Don Valley East (Ward 34) and chair of the City’s Public Works and Infrastructure Committee, reassuring reporters earlier today that transportation staff are taking the recent spate of instances of concrete chunks falling from the underside of the elevated Gardiner Expressway seriously. “The sky is falling” may have been a poor choice of clichés, but it sure is appropriate under the circumstances.
