Duly Quoted: Doug Holyday

Does Rob Ford have any agenda left to implement?

“I think he’d like to get that bag tax out of the way, I think that’s one thing. Other than that, I’m not sure what’ll happen. There are others that want to do things.”

—Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday (Ward 3, Etobicoke Centre), to the Toronto Star, commenting on the prospect that Rob Ford may have run out of ideas that he’s actively working to introduce at City Hall.

Ford will probably use the billboard revenue the ONCA just gave him to cut the bag charge.

The City doesn’t collect any revenue from the bag fees. They go to the retailers.

Which is idiotic. Kill this bag tax and then bring it back in a form the City actually benefits from.

If I’m not mistaken, the city doesn’t actually have the authority to impose such a tax on it’s own if it is collecting the revenue. That’s part of the reason they opted to go with the by-law instead. Also, the 5 cent fee was always intended to be a deterrent for using plastic bags for environmental reasons as opposed to a sin tax.

Oh I know, I followed it before it became law, but I still think it’s idiotic. If the city alone can’t do it, get city MPPs to bring it to Queen’s Park.

It’s the social engineering they are against

Funny how folks are only opposed to “social engineering” when it doesn’t involve paving our roads or subsidizing parking spots.

Sun columns fuming about socialist Silly Hall filling potholes with shovels full of Taxpayer Dollar$ are indeed thin on the ground.
