Arson Charge Laid in Burning of the High Park Castle Playground

Beloved turrets set on fire last weekend.

Christian Kupiecki, age 19, faces charges of arson and obstruction of justice in connection with last weekend’s fire at the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground in High Park. Officials were called to the scene at about 3 a.m. on March 17 after reports that the wooden castle was up in flames.

The playground was built in 1998, the result of a community effort in which children, their parents, and other local volunteers collaborated to design and construct a castle-themed playground. It was named after community leader Jamie Bell in 2003. Plans are underway to rebuild the playground with the help of many new volunteers and several donations (which you can still contribute to), including $50,000 in materials from Canadian Tire.

The day a 19 year old became the third most hated person in all of Toronto. (No matter what he does he just can’t seem to be Ben Mulroney and Rob Ford)

You know what, I forgot about Sue-Ann Levy…. maybe fourth most hated?

    that kid is a penis.

This article looks like a copy and paste from torontostar. We basically don’t know anything about why this kid went arson style on us, so I wouldn’t suggest that he’s already hated.

More like a cut and past from the Sun, but yeah, you’re right.

    Awesome stuff, Hamutal. Thank you.

This and the impending Animal Paddocks closure really hit close to home for me. Why would anyone destroy something for children? Get out and support all of the wonderful things that High Park has to offer…while you still can. A couple of toonies in the donation box at the Paddocks could help save another Toronto High Park land mark.

I went to elementary school with that kid. He was a moron back then too.

Didn’t take long for him to take down his Facebook account.

There was no doubt that it was a fool who did this…If he was alone then he is even more strange

  • Pissed off 1998 volunteer

He should be ordered to rebuild it.

I’m actually surprised that they were able to get a suspect.

He talked, it’s human nature, and someone sensibly turned him in. I imagine there’s very few people who wouldn’t snitch on someone who burned down a children’s playground.

Metaphor for Rob Ford, Toronto, and it’s people?

Someone should stick a high park elm up his arse passage.

No prison time for that 19 year old idiot . He should help rebuild the park , maintain it by cleaning all graffiti and garbage around park for 5 years of his life. So maybe he will have more respect for property.
