Mayor Ford’s Weight Challenge Site Gets Defaced By Anonymous Internet Jerks

Predictable? Yeah, kind of.

Today, Mayor Rob Ford and brother Doug launched their “Cut the Waist Challenge,” a charity fundraiser during which they’ll both attempt to shed pounds, publicly. At the initial weigh-in this morning, we learned that Doug Ford weighs 275 pounds. The mayor is slightly heftier, at 330.

Never ones to take half measures, the brothers Ford have even gone so far as to launch a website, cutthewaist.ca, to track their progress and to enable Torontonians to make their charitable pledges. But whoever designed the site apparently neglected to build in firewalls against the juvenile impulses of Ford’s detractors. The results, as of 12:08 p.m., are what you see in the screenshot above.

Most of the offending entries have since been deleted.

    Who built this site for them? Had they required a Credit Card in order to post a pledge it would have prevented the joke this is becoming beyond the joke it is. Or had they pre-populated the list of Charities with all registered Charities in Canada or something like that it would have also prevented a lot of this. Basically no one with an brains put any thought into building the site. Now they can pay through the nose to have someone moderate it 24 hours a day…this stinks of coming out of our tax dollars.

    The Fords have reacted with typical level-headedness to the fake charities by now having the submission box automatically reject the words “library”, “bicycle” and “gay” and “lesbian”, thereby eliminating any possible chance of donating to real charities affiliated with these words.

    I wonder if other words used like “gravy”, “sasquatch” and “Gord Perks” were also red-flagged; if not, it’s another example of knee-jerk Fordian stupidity at hand.
