Duly Quoted: Doug Ford

Every Sunday afternoon from 1–3 p.m., councillor Josh Matlow (Ward 22, St. Paul’s) hosts a radio show about City Hall on Newstalk 1010. Today, apparently after having previously agreed to appear on the show and then cancelling, mayoral brother Doug Ford (Ward 2, Etobicoke North) called in unexpectedly, taking issue with various remarks Matlow made during the show. Specifically, he denied Matlow’s claim that Ford had said he would only appear on the show only if Matlow support Ford in his vote on the Port Lands. After a short break for traffic, their discussion continued—

Ford: There’s been more public consultation on the waterfront about one project [i.e. the new Port Lands proposal] as long as I can remember, as long as I’ve been living in the city here. Do we agree on that?

Matlow: No, we haven’t started the public consultation process in earnest.

Ford: There’s been more talk on the radio, talk on the news.

Matlow [interjecting]: Talk on the radio, yes.

Ford: I consider that public consultation, when people call in.

Doug Ford thinks that callers to talk radio stations
counts as public input. He values it more greatly
than public hearings with public depositions.
That’s his brand of democracy–as well as bullying.

If the Fords run the city like their business, then
I worry for the business–and the business
    of the city.

Doug Ford has got to let this Port Lands idea go! He’s a little obsessed with it and it’s slipping away. It’s kind of like his brother and the Sheppard subway.

Ford’s reign is way more bizarre than I thought it was going to be.

Oh dear, Doug. If only there were lieberries with dikshonarys.
