Duly Quoted: Anonymous City Employee

“I feel like there’s a gun to my head. I feel undervalued and if anyone wants to know about morale among city workers right now, it’s in the toilet.”

—A public health promoter who works for the City of Toronto, talking to the Star about applying for a buyout package that would see her retiring months before she had originally planned. She said she made the decision due to Rob Ford’s comments that City workers should take the buyouts or face layoffs, not due to any pressure from her superiors. The employee, who asked to remain anonymous, said she felt “bad” about applying for the buyout—which would give her “tens of thousands of dollars”—and worries she will have to leave her job too quickly. “I don’t feel good about taxpayers getting nothing for this money,” she said.

You were smart to take the package because it will be down hill for your benefits and wages after 2012 .
With the curbside pickup soon to be contracted out , there would be no reason for the city to bargain with the rest of you for you will have little bargaing power once some of these key departments are gone.
Ford knows this and this is why he wanted to start with those areas that most impacted Toronto in the event of a strike.
For me this is a bonus and perhaps you feel this is money out the window but then you sit in a warm office were I walked through many snow banks and endured ever nasty weather Toronto tossed my way along with a lot of abuse from even welfare bums thinking they had the right to abuse me.
Don’t feel sad taking what Ford is offering , just grab it and run…..
