In the ongoing battle over Toronto’s future, today is a critical day for reminders of its past. City council will vote on a proposal to close city-operated museums with low attendance and little financial reward, one that the City’s Executive Committee approved last week. Hanging in the balance are heritage sites with roots that go back to Toronto’s beginnings. As a statement in an email sent by Heritage Toronto last Wednesday pointed out, these museums “are the repository of our collective heritage. Destroy them and you destroy the DNA of who we are and how we got here.”
And so, a field guide to the 10 museums the city currently operates. Just click on the image above to get started.
