Jim Flaherty, Rob Ford, and One Very Big Belt

Did your invitation to yesterday’s Ford/Harper barbecue get lost in the mail? (Ours did. Can’t imagine why.) Those in the mayor’s good graces have you covered though, for a few hours after festivities wound down, videos of some key moments popped up on YouTube. (Was there ever any doubt?) If the above video of Jim Flaherty being awarded a very special honour isn’t enough, the video of Stephen Harper’s remarks to the crowd is after the jump. (Choice quote: “Rob is doing something very important that needs to be done here. He is cleaning up the NDP mess here in Toronto.” Rob is also part of a “great Conservative political dynasty,” in case you weren’t sure.)



The most important nugget of information to come out of all this? The next Ford Fest (or Fordstock, if you prefer)—Rob and Doug’s meet-the-public barbecue—is coming soon! Doug announced that they’d be celebrating September 3. Mark your calendars now.

    Amazing: a Toronto gathering of powerful people who hate Toronto. Interesting how they frame the dismantling of a world-class city as “cleaning up the left-wing mess”. It's almost enough to make one vomit in his/her mouth.

    Left-wing/NDP mess?  Why not a photo editorial on all the “messes” these services have created in Toronto (Wheel-trans program, AIDS prevention and drug-abuse prevention programs from CPIP to name a few).  Time to put the microscope on who they're really going after.  Enough of these broad and sweeping lies from our politicians!

    Either that or more articles about how this greedy capitalist lied about service cuts.

    Interesting scenario. Did Rob take Steve on a drunk-driving tour of the QEW? Did he bogart the joint? Did they return to the party for some family violence? Did Rob shout obscenities at the guests? Did Steve fetch a plate of hamburgers for our morbidly obese mayor?
