Scene: Jarvis Street Critical Mass Bike Ride

WHERE: Jarvis Street
WHEN: About 7 p.m. Wednesday evening
WHAT: To protest yesterday’s city council decision to remove bike lanes on Birchmount, Pharmacy, and Jarvis, cyclists gathered for an impromptu Critical Mass ride up and down Jarvis yesterday evening. They met at City Hall at 6 p.m. and headed over to Jarvis at about 6:30, taking a couple of loops up and down that street before dispersing.

Funny how the nieks are movign quicker than the cars…

Hmm; taking up both lanes and the bike lane in one direction is a mite selfish, even as protest.

    It's a protest against selfishness.

My favourite part is when all the bikes are done… and it appears as though they've only really slowed down four cars

Thats really bad news for bike riders that the city council decision to remove the bike lane, i think without bike lane the bike riders are going to ride on the road, it is too difficult to drive a car and get a more traffic, i think city council should have to change the system law.

Takig up one whole lane (as technically allowed within the limits of the law) is a protest. Taking one whole side of the road fights selfishness with more selfishness, generating more anti-bike ire.

The idea should be to promote that bikes and cars can share the road fairly w/out undue obstruction to cars.
