City Starts Issuing Temporary Parking Permits

Transportation City Hall is helping Torontonians join the 21st century with a small-but-genuinely-useful move. Residents can now purchase 24- or 48-hour on-street parking permits to accommodate overnight guests and out-of-town visitors who have short-term parking needs. Temporary permits can be purchased online (you will need a printer) up to one week in advance.

    We're a one car family living on a street with permit-only parking. This is an appreciated step for those times when we have friends and relatives stay overnight or past midnight. Instead of paying $22 for 6 extra nights we don't need, it's nice to pay $8 for the one night we need.

    Unfortunately, this temporary permit doesn't cover overnight parking on streets that are not already designated for permit parking, and thus it is useless (at least to me)…
