The High and Lows of Luminato’s Opening Weekend
With Luminato’s first weekend now behind us, we’ve got a better sense of how this year’s festival is shaping up. As with previous years, at times the eclecticism feels like it might risk veering off into incoherence (though this has been improving), and as is inevitable with a large, multi-faceted festival, there is a mix of good and disappointing. But as a whole, so far we’re finding this installment of Luminato stronger than the last, and though we miss the heady rambunctiousness of the first year’s Spiegel tent ‘n tavern and its stronger location in the streets, 2011 is shaping up to be a good year.
Among the many performing arts shows, we’ve so far been big fans of Andromache ( 
); Natural Magick (
