What Banksy’s Toronto Pieces Look Like Today

When Banksy appeared, then disappeared, in Toronto overnight on a weekend in May, he (she? they?) left seven street art pieces behind, all of them immediately at the city’s mercy. Some lasted hours before being buried behind new coats of paint, others lasted months, and some disappeared altogether from where they were. Nearly half a year after they turned up in town just in time for a little film, this is what Banksy’s pieces look like today.

Thanks for the article David. Funny timing, I was about to send Torontoist some images that reminded me of the Banksy stuff you wrote about some months ago. Do you know who did this piece? I assume its not Banksy, but its pretty neat anyway…

For that Stephen Harper piece, you’ve got Posterchild to thank.

Cynicism is at a high in this day and age, so I think it been part of a viral marketing ploy for the movie.
For example, you read your Toronto blogs and see articles about a street artist you’ve vaguely heard about before. Then, you go to the theater with your friends who don’t know what to see, see a movie poster for the Banksy film, and suggest seeing that one because your interest had been piqued by blog articles. Bravo, marketing machine!

    Banksy lives on!
I cannot attest to the authenticity of the piece, but there’s a Banksy mouse on the window pane of a merchant on the SE corner of College & Spadina. It’s been there since the original Banksy works went up. It’s a bit inconspicuous – probably only 20 cm in height. The paper that the mouse is printed on has curled up significantly.
