Advance voting is starting this very minute, at six locations across the city. The days you can cast your ballot in advance: October 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, and 13; polls are open from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. each day. Hmm… what happens if you vote and your candidate drops out between now and election day proper?

Technically, nobody is dropping out at this point in the race—Sarah Thomson’s name will be on the ballot too. The last date to enter or withdraw from the election was September 10. “Dropping out,” at this stage, means that candidates ask you to ignore their name on the ballot and instead vote for someone else. Best advice: if you think there’s a chance your candidate of choice might drop out and you’d want to vote for someone else in that case, refrain from voting early. If you’re sticking with your candidate of choice no matter what—even if they ask you to vote otherwise—then you can go to the polls now.

Took me about 10 minutes total this afternoon to vote at City Hall.
