—Ontario Court of Justice Judge Ramez Whawly, quoted in the National Post, announcing his ruling on charges faced by David Chen. In May 2009, Chen detained a man, Anthony Bennett, who stole plants from his Chinatown store. Today, Whawly found Chen not guilty on all charges.

    This seems like a dangerous precedent to me. Taking the law into your own hands isn’t justice, it’s revenge or frustration or vindictiveness, or something else entirely.
