The Exhibition: Rides

Torontoist’s photographers are exploring the Canadian National Exhibition. Today, Miles Storey turns his lens on the stars of the show: the midway’s rides.
At night, the midway at the Canadian National Exhibition is a melee of clanking machinery, piercing music, frenetic chatter, and blazing lights blurring into swinging lines as rides sweep through the air. During the day, under bright blue skies, the excitement’s still there, but the rides cut a less flamboyant figure as they compete with every other shape and colour around them exposed by the light of day.
Using daytime long-exposure techniques, these photographs uncover the discrete shapes the rides construct on their individual paths, allowing them to stand out once again.
