What It Is And What It Should Be: Moss Park

What if, in Toronto, “great” was the only acceptable standard? What It Is And What It Should Be thinks about ways to improve the cityspace, a few bits at a time.

That’s great and all, but sadly implausible. I was a resident in the Moss Park area, the pond you think should be put in there is right accross the street fromthe Fred Victor centre, and until the Armory put up a fence the artillery and nice sign that adorns the lawn of the Armory was a good spot for people to “hide” while they smoked crack/meth or shot up, also, it seems like the barrels of the arty were good spots from naps. If you walk by at the right time of day or night you’re likely to see, right in the area for this proposed pond a man vomiting, urinating or taking a dump.
The only way this could even be considered is if the 3 shelters that are in the area weren’t, or junkies suddenly start hvaing regard for others.

Also, want to know what’s bigger than hockey in Toronto right now and costs a LOT less than a hockey rink? A Soccer field, there’s plenty of space for it there and there’s already peiople that play pickup soccer on nets made of school bags and shirts. Just get rid of the baseball diamond that is never used, except as another spot for junkies to hang out.

Reminds me of a summer job I had across the street many (, many) years ago. We’d play soccer at lunchtime in the park, and sometimes the drunk-out-of-their-minds vagrants would join in. They usually joined the “skins” team.

Don’t expect any public works projects under Rob Ford. any in the pipeline will be canceled and nothing new will be considered. There will be no more money spent downtown it will all go to he suburbs.
