Streeter: Killing Time Edition

Streeter collects only the finest overheard conversations. Hear something? Send it to streeter@torontoist.com.
20100101Streeter.jpg Overheard by reader Daniella LaGiglia on the Queen streetcar on a Monday afternoon.
Sketchy dude, approaching a stereotypically frat boy–looking guy: What’s the time?
Frat boy: 6:15.
Sketchy dude: Not for me. For me, it’s eight years for manslaughter.
Sketchy dude laughs, as everyone avoids eye contact, and an elderly woman discreetly moves up to the front of the car.

My guess is that this is Sketchy dude’s polished shtick. Especially on the Queen streetcar… it clears up seats.

Yeah…singing along to Tom Waits on the iPod has helped me numerous times…

Or do what my friend does – starting singing the Star Spangled Banner. LOL

Typically you serve your sentence in prison, not on the streetcar.

Sure, but a verse or two of “God’s Away on Business” works very, very well:
    Goddamn there’s always such
    A big temptation
To be good, To be good
    There’s always free cheddar in
    A mousetrap, baby
    It’s a deal, it’s a deal
    God’s away, God’s away, God’s away
    On Business. Business.
Seriously, this song kinda freaks me out when I’m listening to it by myself at home. I can’t imagine what it does to someone sitting beside me as I sing along, in one of those semi-whispering “forgot I was singing along” voices.
Accidentally, of course. To do it on purpose I’d use something less subtle, like a rapper “Outta my seat, bitch, you make my trigger finger, twitch…sorry, did I say that out loud?”

You don’t ride the streetcar that often do you? Heh.
