Streeter: Zodiac Killer Edition

Streeter collects only the finest overheard conversations. Hear something? Send it to streeter@torontoist.com.
20090514Streeter.jpg Overheard by Torontoist’s Meg Campbell on Aroma’s patio, in the Annex. Two New Age–y women are talking about zodiac signs, and one is telling the other about how the calendar’s effects can extend to whole countries, not just individual people.
Lady #1, very seriously: Oh, yeah, Hitler was totally an Aries.

He was a Taurus, not an Aries.

I was pretty sure Taurus began on the 21st…

I’m always amazed at how many people browbeat climate change skeptics with “the science is settled”, but believe in any number of unscientific things like astrology, traditional medicine like acupuncture or homeopathy…

No, really, tell us more about your contempt for stupid people. It is unique and interesting.

Segue! No, wait, the other thing: non-sequitur.

Oh, that is so hip it positively hurts. I hope you wear t-shirts with witty sayings on them to save time and energy.
So, do you belong to the “science if necessary, but not necessarily science” crowd of hypocrites?

If you must know, I’d put myself in the skeptic/luke-warmist crowd.
However, the fact that Torontoist doesn’t dwell on this most flammable (and not very Toronto-specific) of topics is, I think, a plus not a minus. That’s what the rest of the internet is for.

    1. The models that climatologists have developed can’t come anywhere close to modeling the climate perfectly accurately.
    2. The vast majority of climatologists agree that there is more than enough evidence for anthropological climate change and the costs for ignoring the problem will very likely cost future generations a great deal more than not ignoring it.
For someone to use 1 to undermine 2 is at best naively optimistic, and at worst cynical intellectual dishonesty.
I also think astrology and alt-med is ridiculous, to address the original point.
