Close, but the real story…the underpants gnomes finally figured out the ??? part

  • http://undefined Mark

    I don’t get it.

  • http://undefined torontocomments

…any wonder why we’re the laughing stock of Canada?

  • http://undefined Darren

    hahaha, love the picture.

  • http://undefined Ansantari

You think the rest of Canada cares enough to laugh at us?

  • rek

    Why is Chewbacca there?

  • http://undefined torontocomments

Ansantari, from your remark, I take it you’ve never bothered to read the comments on GTA stories in the Globe or CBC Radio or …

  • http://undefined Darren

That loos more like a PoS then Chewbacca. Maybe its an depiction of how the audience was treated by this announced

  • http://undefined Ansantari

“cares” and has nothing better to do than comment on stories on the Globe or CBC Radio are two different things.

  • http://undefined Darren

    wow typos.
    loos = looks
    announced = announcement

  • mark.

    Yes!

    Ansantari,
I’m not sure what your point is … but people don’t actually have to “care” about Toronto (or anything they see as a source of humor) to consider it a laughing stock.

  • Darren

Just figuered it out. Thats BigFoot, ie all fictional charecters around Miller

  • http://undefined mark.

Ansantari’s point (if I may assume) is that there’s a difference (a gap, a disjuncture) between those who are concerned about Toronto and those who leave comments on the Star, the Globe, the CBC, etc. There is an enormous gap between the tone of comments left on these sites and the general sentiment of the voting public. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, just that if you’re trying to get an accurate sense of the ‘public’s mood,’ comment threads are not the place to go. Scientific polls consistently diverge from the tone of comment threads. You can see this yourself – look at a comment thread on any “political” (i.e. governmental) article and compare the tone of the comments to history, to the current *elected* gov’t, to the sensibilities of people.
People who are trying to get an accurate, quantifiable prediction of “the public’s” mood or intentions are trying their best to not skew the results. They know a significant variable: a mailed survey and a phone survey will provide different results because people who respond to phone surveys are quantifiabley different than those who respond to mailed surveys, and the latter are even further removed are those who post in comment threads. (Irony!?)

Mark, that’s great…my point is that when you become a laughingstock, it makes it easier for the senior levels of government to not take you seriously around what you are trying to advocate for…and David Miller with these kinds of shenanigans has done a lot to make us a laughingstock. On that score, he has followed in the fine path laid out by Mel “NOOOBODY” Lastman. Yeah, Lastman was a clown, but Miller might as well walk around with a red rubber nose also.

  • http://undefined rek

The rest of Canada already hates us, if this registers at all it’s just another grain of sand on the beach of irrationality.

  • http://undefined rek

How was the audience treated like shit?

  • http://undefined torontothegreat

haha so damn true. As an expat to Toronto, I can say I’ve never understood this. It’s often based on totally illogical reasoning and/or by people who have never stepped foot in our wonderful city.

  • Darren

The media was led to believe there was going to be a great annnouncement, and it turned out to be nothing special.

  • http://undefined torontocomments

Someone who is in a key role (ie the Mayor) to advocate on behalf of this city should act in a way that builds their credibility. Lastman didn’t. And neither did Miller. Seems like those posting on this site are OK with that. I guess we get the mayors we deserve.

  • http://undefined Darren

I still think Sarah Thomson is the most credible person. The good news is that she has John Tory Jr. helping her campaign.

Hey! There is a little “REPLY” link below individual comments; when you’re signed in, it lets you reply directly to the comment you want to—the replies get embedded below the comments you want to reply to, like this one is (I clicked “reply” below your comment). If you want to reply to a specific comment on an article, that is the best way to do it; otherwise, your comments get posted out of context and look totally random.

Oh please Miller is no where near the clown that Lastman was. I thought Lastman meant well and would’ve been a good member of council but I found it extremely embarassing to have him for a mayor, he embarassed the city at every opportunity he got. Miller might not be perfect and he’s made mistakes but I’m not the least bit embarassed to have him as the mayor of Toronto, in my opinion he has been a very good mayor though judging by the comments sections of whatever news organization I’m in the minority in my opinion of him and I believe our city is much better off now because of his terms as mayor, something I never could’ve said about Lastman.

  • Darren

Lastman was a different type of clown. He knew he was a clown, and he used that in his humour. Miller has zero humour, much like Harper. Its more comical to see an uptight person stumble, especially if he claims (like he did in NOW) that he is looking for the little guy etc etc

Mmmm, 70% off all that sushi. Just imagine. Oh- what was that David? heh. Oh, for real though. Very happy to see you on the boards giving a little nudge here and there. I’d hug you for it.
