Duly Quoted: George Smitherman

“Yesterday we saw more of the same from City Hall. Instead of solutions, Toronto was handed the last in a series of Miller budgets, which barely fights off a deficit using short-term thinking and stop-gap measures.”
—Mayoral candidate George Smitherman, in a statement outlining his proposed alternatives for dealing with the Toronto’s finances, issued in response to yesterday’s release of the City’s draft 2010 operating budget.

Smitherman is hear to make sure the Provincial government won’t be part of the solution. Looks like he’ll be a Harris/McGuinty apologist. Fiscal conservatives love to make urbanites suffer.

This guy will say anything to get elected. Fiscal accountability is the current theme in the air, so he will say all these pretty words to come across as being fiscally accountable.
Too bad he has already obtainted the union vote

I have to admit until Adam Giambrone dropped out I was planning to vote strategically for whoever I thought could beat that incompetent windbag…not I have to rethink and my vote I parked with Smitherman will likely move elsewhere (at this point Rossi, but hopefully somewhere even better eventually).

Like Furious George or not – he is right in this instance, unfortunately. The City has depleted its reserves and even though the budget is balanced, the future looks bleak.

If the sitting or incumbent candidate is a lefty, or just left of however’s talking, ‘fiscal accountability’ is an inevitable campaign promise.

I agree, but I’m tired of hearing people say how “different” they are of Miller when their track record says otherwise

sounds a lot like what the Provincial government did under his watchful eye
