Make a Connection With Torontoist Using Facebook

19Oct09_Facebook2.jpg
If you’ve got a Facebook account—and because you’re in Toronto and are on the internet right now you quite possibly do—commenting on Torontoist just got a bit easier.
We’ve just added Facebook Connect across the whole entire site, which means that you can now easily comment on any Torontoist article using your Facebook account. All you’ve gotta do is click the big “Connect With Facebook” button at the very foot of any post you want to comment on. You’ll get a little pop up box asking you to confirm your decision, and then, if you click “Connect” once more, you’ll be magically transported…back to the entry you were on, but now you’ll be logged in to comment on Torontoist with your Facebook account. After you post a comment, you can also choose to have your comment show up in the “Recent Activity” section on your Facebook wall, so that all your friends will know how clever (or, as the case may be, full of hate) you are.
You can learn more about Facebook Connect here, or go ahead and try it on this here post.

Thing that is also of note for regular commenters who want to use Facebook Connect’s features but not see their commenting accounts split between the one they created originally on Torontoist and the one that gets created if you use Facebook: after you “Connect” and log in to Torontoist using Facebook for the first time, if you log back out and then sign back in with your regular commenting account, Facebook still remembers you exist and, when you comment, will still ask if you want to post a link to your comment on your wall.

Calling your readers “full of hate”? That’s a rather petty tangent to go off on for a new feature announcement.

    Testing 1-2-3!
Yay! I’ve been a loyal reader since moving to Toronto last year and this is my first time commenting.
    Keep up the great work!

David, you’re now showing up as a question mark without a name…

    Thanks for the tip!
That was the first concern that came to my mind.

Sometimes it takes a second for the Facebook icon and name to load…
