ART: Coinciding with International Youth Day, the Art Gallery of Ontario is celebrating ten years of youth programming with the launch of two special exhibitions. “InTENse: Ten years of Teens Behind the Scenes at the AGO” is a retrospective exhibition featuring projects—from zines and graffiti murals to fashion design and multimedia projects—created by members of the AGO Youth Council over the past decade. “InTENSION: a video residency reflecting on ten years of youth programming” features the work of former program participants who have returned to create new projects, sharing memories and reflecting on works from the AGO’s permanent collection. Tonight’s launch party will feature tours provided by past and present members of the Youth Council, dance artists, a DJ battle, and remarks from AGO Director and CEO Matthew Teitelbaum. Art Gallery of Ontario (317 Dundas Street West), 6–8:30 p.m., FREE.
YOUTH: Also in celebration of International Youth Day, the Bleecker Street Co-op is recognizing the talent, leadership, and diversity of local youth. This afternoon’s event will feature a variety of youth-oriented workshops, discussions, musical performances, and a volunteer fair. The co-op is the past recipient of numerous awards for its community outreach programs and activism, including its Rwanda Project fundraising campaign, ongoing commitment to the health and human rights of people living with HIV/AIDS, and youth-run publication, Bleecker Big Mouth Newsletter. Bleecker Street Cooperative Homes (85 Bleecker Street), 4–6 p.m., FREE.
FILM: The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) presents “Lift Out Loud,” a bi-monthly screenplay reading series. Tonight’s guest moderator is Ken Finkleman—writer, creator, producer, and star of CBC’s The Newsroom. On deck for this evening’s discussion are two television pilots: Private Eyes, written by Yolanda Beasley, and The Black Donnellys, written by Robert Fidler. The cheap cover charge gets you in on the discussion, networking opportunities, and free pizza. XPACE Cultural Centre (58 Ossington Avenue), 7 p.m., $5.
THEATRE: Local history, geography, and theatre converge with Teacht i dTír: Voices from Ireland Park, presented by the MacKenzieRo independent theatre company. The project pays homage to the thirty-eight thousand Irish immigrants who came to Toronto during the potato famine of 1847 and the devastating events following their arrival. The show, which runs nightly (excluding Sundays) through August 22, is sold out for its opening tonight, but tickets are still available for the remaining performances at “the door.” Be sure to bring your blanket, as it’s an open-air event at Ireland Park, the city’s monument to the famine. Ireland Park at Eireann Quay (Bathurst Street and Queens Quay West), 7 p.m., PWYC.
