A Nice Day for a Woof Wedding

As a prelude to this coming weekend's Woofstock festival, organizers arranged the Woofstock Doggie Weddings High Tea at the King Edward Hotel yesterday. The puntastic event—hosted by comedian Laurie Elliott—brought together doggy couples who wanted to prove their "commuttment" by taking their "bow vows." Each canine couple received a blessing from Reverend Dr. John Joseph Mastandrea and a certificate of "muttrimony".

All proceeds from the event are donated to the Pet Trust Fund.

OK, am I the only one who finds these pictures horribly depressing? I mean, I'm sure some of the participants are perfectly normal, well-adjusted people and not sad, lonely basket cases trying desperately to fill the holes in their lives by holding fake weddings for their dogs... right?

Of course I'm not judging. I'm just a tuxedo-clad Pomeranian away from being that crazy myself.

I see this and I think about the thousands of homeless people on the streets of Toronto.

Canine marriage is destroying Canadian family values.
