Last night Yonge-Dundas Square filled up with hundreds of people celebrating the moves of the late King of Pop in the Moonwalk for Michael Jackson flashmob organized by the Urban Recreation Association Facebook group.
At first only a handful of people—surrounded by a tight throng of people waving cameras and cellphones—busted out the moves as "Billie Jean" came over the P.A. system. Gradually, though, as the music proved too infectious and the dancing too fly, the mood spread and all through the crowd people were emulating Jackson's famous moves. The dancing even spread to the street.

I actually taught myself to moon walk tonight. *fist pump*
Sam Javanrouh of Daily Dose of Imagery fame lingered around the scramble intersection and caught video of the crowds moonwalking (over and over again) through it.
I was in a bar the day of his death that rocked an all-MJ playlist. Initially I had this twinge of it being in poor taste -- something to do with playing a freshly dead guy's music as a cheap nostalgia trip for partiers -- but now I find it interesting, in a good way, that his death has garnered this largely positive, celebratory, fun-centric, and sometimes bittersweet response. Not to sound like an eulogy, but I can only hope that when I die, people respond to reminders of my past existence by going "Woo!".
