Strike Watch: Day Four

As the city accumulates garbage throughout the ongoing city workers’ strike, we’ll be accumulating photos. Torontoist’s photographers are checking in on garbage and recycling bins around the city throughout the strike, an attempt to follow the tangible effects of the strike and complement our other coverage.

After the Osler Playground (and Trinity-Bellwoods, and Dufferin Grove) garbage bins all got unexpectedly emptied yesterday, we’re changing how Strike Watch is going to work a bit: instead of just tracking the change at one location, as we started to earlier this week, for the rest of the strike we’re going to be hopping around the city, snapping different garbage and recycling bins each day. Our Miles Storey took the photo above of the bin at Queen Street West and Markham Street at 12:30 p.m.; like most other bins throughout the city, it was initially sealed shut with plastic wrap, but that’s since been pulled off.

    Information pickets are one thing, but shrink-wrapping the public waste bins is just mean-spirited albeit organized hooliganism.
    Some jerks are going to dump waste in all sorts of inappropriate places no matter what, so why not maximize the legit storage capacity from the start, and minimize the mess (a tiny bit?)?

    I’ll field that one!
    It’s because nobody is emptying these garbage cans (I think), and it’s unsanitary to use them. People should do the responsible thing and use a garbage can that will be emptied (i.e. wait until you get home or to a business).
    It’s better do the smart thing and not buy as many things in disposable containers, especially when out and about.

    From what I’ve seen of a few silver boxes that have burst open, they didn’t even leave plastic bags in the black bins inside.

    yesterday I saw this huge pile of tim horton’s garbage sitting next to one of these silver trash bins.
    2 feet away from the tim hortons :/
