• Gothamist witnessed plans for an impressive, if controversial, Frank Gehry–designed basketball arena get replaced by a ho-hum, run-of-the-mill sports arena plan (pictured above) because it was less expensive. In fact, Gehry is no longer involved with the massive Brooklyn plan at all.
• Bostonist went to the Boston Pride Parade and saw everything from Batman and Robin to dancing lifeguards. Oh, and a local sports team swept its rival.
• Chicagoist was all about artifacts this week: the collection of Italian artifacts worthy of Indiana Jones a local man had stashed in his house and an old photo of Bulls Rookie of the Year Derrick Rose flashing an alleged gang sign.
• SFist reacted to the city enacting the toughest recycling and composting laws in the United States.
• Londonist saw millions of Londoners suffer two days of transport vexations in yet another pointless tube strike.
• Seattlest barely even noticed Portland running down Seattle for being stodgy and conventional, being too busy reporting on our dogs on dope and gourmet attack pigs.
• DCist was shocked when an armed man shot a guard at the U.S. Holocaust Museum. The shooter, an 88-year-old white supremacist, was shot by other guards; the wounded guard later died.
• LAist kicked off the debate about crime and punishment when it comes to the possible compassionate release of dying Manson Family member Susan Atkins.
• Phillyist took on a bully blog by drawing attention to a silly mistake.
• Shanghaiist saw its city host China’s first gay pride event. Things went pretty smoothly—until the authorities realized what was going on.
