Stupid Is as Stupid Does

20090508stupidnotaracist.jpg One day—one day—there's a chance Torontoist will make an error so embarrassing that it will give the media outlets we have intermittently mocked the chance to revel in our embarrassment.

But today (fingers crossed) is not that day. No, today is the day where we get to make fun of the Sun. Today, the paper had to issue an apology for a misquoted headline on yesterday's cover (at right). The headline in question, right at the top there, was an exclusive: "Our son is stupid, not a racist." But that headline, as the Sun said today, "was both inaccurate and misleading," because "as the story reported, the mother of a boy involved in a high school fight in Keswick said her son 'said something stupid.' She did not say nor imply he was stupid." The Sun, to their credit, "regrets the error and apologizes to the boy and his family," which is nice, because of all the ways to find out your mom thinks you're stupid, a headline on the cover of a newspaper probably isn't one of the better ones.

A teenage bully who says stupid, racist things is not stupid or racist?

His mom is allowed to think otherwise. :)

Now, he will never be mayor of this city because he says stupid and dumb things AND the Sun hates him.

I see what you did there...

When I think of media outlets in Toronto that are stupid and racist... I wonder if the Sun was just projecting...
