Torontoist Flickr pool member designwallah snapped this photo of an adorable bunny in distress.
These flyers have been plastered all over Kensington Market for a few days now, pleading with pedestrians to surrender any and all guilty knowledge of the whereabouts of two hard drives with the only copies of some kind of movie, starring said bunny.
A phone call revealed the bunny-bereaved to be local puppeteer Jamie Shannon, notable for his 2005 effort to get Toronto to loosen up; his several TV puppetry efforts; and Jamie's Area, his dwelling/gallery space in Kensington Market, from which the two hard drives in question were stolen while Shannon was away in Montreal.
We cradled our cell phone and listened to his tale of rabbity woe.
"It's a bunny I've had for many years. A bunny puppet that's a reject," he said. "We sold bunny puppets to a karaoke station in Singapore...That's one from ten years ago. I've been performing with it for awhile."
And the movie?
"I made one movie, and I made it with a bunch of friends. And we shot it in three days...The bunny is a Casanova and he has lots of girlfriends and ex-girlfriends, but he's a tragic bunny because he doesn't have the love that he needs. I feel it's a story that needs to be told. I have a friend called Eugene who has a particular affinity for this character. And he wrote the film with me."
There was pain in Shannon's voice. No doubt he's hurting right now. But lest we forget who the real victim here is:
(Video follows.)
We asked Shannon if there was anything he might want the thief to read, on the off chance he or she reads Torontoist. (Hey, it's a possibility.)
"There's nothing left to steal."
"And please give the hard drives back."

Just go to Waxman Park and grab the edgy punk with the newest boots. There's your culprit.
Oops Bellevue Square.
I can certainly sympathize - when my house was robbed, they stole the hard drives I had with 3 years of poster designs and artwork, not to mention hundreds of dollars in fonts.
I didn't care about the stuff - you can get new stuff. I just wanted my art back. It's a horrible feeling.
