MUSIC: After wowing fringe festivals across the country in 2008, meta-punk-pranksters Die Roten Punkte (German for “The Red Dots”) bring their “Robot / Lion Tour 2009” to town for two shows this week, tonight at Supermarket (and moving to the Tranzac Tuesday night). Self-described as a “lipstick-smeared, narcissistic tantrum–loving, sonic collision between Plastic Bertrand, Kraftwerk, and early Ramones,” their performance is sure to amuse and entertain (unless you’re over the whole “meta” thing). Supermarket (268 Augusta Avenue), 8:00 p.m., $15 cash only.

FILM: Cinematheque’s presentation of Canada's Top Ten (celebrating the best Canadian films of 2008 as chosen by critics, academics, and filmmakers) continues tonight with two screenings. Luc Bourdon’s La Mémoire des anges (showing at 7:00 p.m.) traces the history of Montreal using footage pieced together from more than 120 vintage NFB films to create an audio/video love letter to the city. At 9:00 p.m., Atom Egoyan’s Adoration mines familiar themes of identity and communication in a drama about a teenager who uncovers secrets about his family’s past. Jackman Hall (317 Dundas Street West, inside the AGO), 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., $8 per film.

WORDS: Recent recipient of a Governor General’s Literary Award for his 2008 novel, The Origin of Species, Nino Ricci will be taking part in this month’s installment of the Rowers Pub Reading Series. Marian Botsford Fraser and Jeannette Lynes complete the bill. Harbord House (150 Harbord Street), 7:30 p.m., FREE.

MUSIC: Internationally acclaimed chamber-music ensemble Miro Quartet make their University of Toronto debut at the Faculty of Music’s Walter Hall. The program includes Mendelssohn’s Quartet Op. 44 No.1, Kevin Puts’s Credo, and Dvorak’s Quartet Op. 96, “American.”. Edward Johnson Building (80 Queen’s Park), 7:30 p.m., $25, $15 seniors/students.
