The Long and Short of It

CBC Radio 3 announced yesterday the first cuts in the search for the best live venues in Canada. Toronto topped, nay, absolutely dominated the list of nods―no big surprise there―and did it with a pretty impressive record. Eighteen out of the nominated venues reside in Toronto the Good (next best was Calgary, with ten). The Cameron House, The Dakota Tavern, El Mocambo, The Gladstone, The Horseshoe, Hugh's Room, Lee's Palace, The Lucky Dragon, The Mod Club, The Music Gallery, The Phoenix (which we thought was out of the running with a 1,350-person capacity), Rancho Relaxo, The Rex, The Rivoli, The Smiling Buddha, Sneaky Dee's, The Tranzac, and "The Wrong Bar" are all on the list. The first round of voting is now in session on CBC Radio 3's website, with the top fifty being revealed Tuesday.

Truly, Radio 3 is one of the worst designed sites in existence, using frames and mixed(-up) media like it's 1997.

Why didn't you link to the voting page? Oh right, because their website doesn't support links. Maybe someone could provide old-fashioned "directions" to this alleged contest.

Here's the link for voting: http://radio3.cbc.ca/polls/?pollId=29

Yeah, the interface is pretty ugly, but its navigable.

As for directions, using your mouse, scroll down the page to find your favorite venue, and click the tiny little circle (see it?!) to the left of its name. Good. Now, scroll all the way down to the very bottom and hit the big button that says "VOTE NOW."

If you've been able to do this all by yourself, give yourself a big ol' pat on the back and smile. Great job.

That "best of" list is completely laughable.
There are so many awesome live music venues that haven't made it to the list (The Drake Hotel, hello!?!) & some really questionable ones that did (Wrong Bar??? Since when do they have anything other than DJs?!?)...

Wrongbar has concerts semi-often, I saw Monotonix there and it was a really good venue for them. Also, live music has pretty much incorporated DJs thanks to people like Girl Talk and Justice. To see Wrongbar's past events: Facebook link to past events there

I'm just glad that the Opera House didn't make the cut.
