At five minutes to 10 p.m. tonight, we'll hear the following words: "Ladies and gentlemen. Please clear the runway and take your seats. The show is about to begin." And sure, those words might be in our heads, burned there by so many megaphone announcements in the tents. But we'll hear them and be a tiny bit more excited, even if none of it is real—just reality.
We're talking about Project Runway Canada, yes, again. Season Dos premieres tonight on Global, sliding over from the Slice Network, and—having advance-screened the episode—we can promise it holds the kind of two-for-one twist for which Tyra would kill. (If only with a look.)
After the jump, meet all four Toronto contestants and decide whom you'll love to hate the most...
Camille Prins, 28
No doubt due to her captivating intellect, the first episode devotes an incongruous amount of airtime to the insanely perky and positive Ms. Prins. At least three minutes are devoted to her talking about how hard she works. (For example: "The people that know me best would probably say that I'm the hardest worker that they've ever seen.") But then she does, making it a bit difficult to hate. Also of note: she already has her own line of cocktail attire, named Dutch Blonde. Lest the mystery vex you too sorely, the name comes from a) her Dutchness and b) her blondeness.
Jeff McKinnon, 41
Jeff's already worked for two PRC players: design and show mentor Brian Bailey, who's one of the tallest and gentlest men we've ever met, and lovable veteran dressmaker Wayne Clark, who appears as a special guest judge in a future episode. (Other patriots making star turns include super-super-supermodel Coca Rocha and infamous puck bunny Elisha Cuthbert.) Does that mean he gets special treatment? Maybe we should call it an age handicap.
Jessica Biffi, 25
Jessica Biffi believes everyone should have a catchphrase, and you wanna know what hers is? Okay, we'll tell you anyway. It's "You betta recognize!" She also describes herself as a "dork," which is good practice if she ever does become a famous designer and has to give those disingenuously self-deprecating soundbites. Considering she's been working in plus-size retail since graduating from Ryerson's School of Fashion in 2006, we have to assume she's extraordinarily motivated to win this.
Sunny Fong, 32
"I’m very serious when I need to be, and I’m very crazy when I’m not serious," explains Sunny "Yes, That's My Real Name" Fong in his audition tape. "When people get to know me, that’s where they discover and understand that there’s this yin-yang to my personality." OK, sure. When we watched the first ep, all we saw was crazy (albeit of the oddly endearing variety), but, hey, that's why we'll watch again tonight. We sincerely like that Fong studied film, not fashion, and taught himself to sew by making costumes for his projects. (Potential downside: a tendency to fancy himself the next Christian Lacroix, or something.)

You are obviously wrong. The only good one is the girl from BC who makes the vintage cut-up stuff (Kdon) as it's the only label i've actually heard of, and if you know me (and you do) you know that i'm not much of a fashionista.
This is the last time I will talk about Project anything.

For whatever reason I thought this was a Canada's Next Top Model post and I was gonna say, wow, they're really making an effort at diversity, and I can see how including men is a real twist!
But no.
nothing says "i know fashion!" like a keffiyah from h&m.
I am really glad that Elisha Cuthbert has finally evolved past "that girl in 24 who got stuck in a cougar trap" to "puck bunny." Baby steps, Elisha, baby steps.
Sunny was definately my favorite, glad he won this season he was definately the best! While in Project runway withdrawl I was googling and I found some newer work by Sunny Fong for the 2009 Cashmere White Collection to help raise awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
