Winter must be a difficult time for construction site voyeurs. Fortunately for them, the Toronto International Film Festival Group has a solution: TIFFG is asking Toronto's photographers to help document the development of their new Bell Lightbox building at King and John streets. It's a neat idea—anybody can take pictures of the construction and upload them to the Lightbox's Flickr pool, and, after the festival in September, five weekly pictures will be displayed on the Lightbox website. Select photos will also be purchased from the photographers and used in publicity for the building as part of the opening ceremonies in 2010.
TIFFG is looking for shots that best express a love of cinema. We don't know how exactly to do this with construction photos, but we're confident in the creativity of the public. We suggest trying to find a sexy welder-girl.
The construction process, despite starting last September, is really taking off now. The final beam was erected (a big deal, apparently with ceremonies and everything) on Friday, meaning that the basic structure is complete and the Lightbox—along with the rather unsightly Festival Tower—is beginning to take form. Now is the best time to take the pictures, before all the work is hundreds of metres above us. Welder chicks aren't as sexy when they are only twenty pixels tall.

Sure the best clones are from Germany, but it's a lot cheaper to get it done in Mexico. Plus they're not mind-controlled.
