Erin + Duncan = L-O-V-E

One small step for Toronto, and a giant step down for the rest of mankind.

It's not that we care about The City, MTV's big apple version of the gossip- and "work"-based reality show The Hills. And there's no way we were glued to our TVs last night, taking notes and screencaps of the outfits of Whitney, Olivia, and Erin. It's just that we here at Torontoist are devoted to the city, well, our city, and every minuscule mention we receive in American big-time media. And thus, it is our duty to report to you on last night's Canadian breakthrough.

2009_01_06duncan2.jpg Here's the down-lo (we're hoping you don't already know): Whitney has just moved away from the cattiness of Speidi, LC, and Audrina in Beverly and into the new, drama-free world of Gotham. She's staying at her model friend Erin's place, where the soulful musician boyfriend is in town for the weekend. Erin's boyfriend is tottttally like, all the way from Toronto, and probably a hipster. He and Erin went on a few dates and are definitely, 100 per cent in love. According to the highly skilled screen-cappers, Erin's "long distant relationships" of the past make her a love-life expert, just like all the girls on the scripted reality shows.

This turned Paige Dzenis, a former Torontoist contributor, all-a-Twitter, sleuthing around till she found out the man behind the beard. Turns out the scruffy mystery lover is Duncan Davies, the local folk singer. There's even a song dedicated to Erin (hopefully this Erin) on his MySpace―we were just surprised that it didn't squeeze in the show's playlist alongside The Pussycat Dolls. Now the only question is: does this boost or bum out his fan base?

and then she reached the point of no return into lame-dom...

(for more stalking, summize.com the term #thecity)

(...i can't help it!!)

Has anyone in Toronto who likes indie folk rock or whatever he plays, actually heard of this guy?

When does reality tv stop being real? Whitney doesn't even really work at DVF.

(I'm so sorry Torontoist for bringing you doing even further).

Yeah, he hasn't been in Toronto full time for a few years, but he played a show last week at Mitzi's.

I'm always up for new music; especially indie folk rock. I'll have to check him out later. Thanks for the heads up! Could be a bust...
