Sundin, Bloody Sundin

Mats Sundin is no longer a Maple Leaf: he's off to the Vancouver Canucks, choosing to sign with the team because they have better Stanley Cup prospects. We'll have more about the move tomorrow, but suffice to say we, along with most everyone else, have been wondering how he's lasted here this long.

"Mats Sundin is no longer a Maple Leaf"

Um, Sundin stopped being a Leaf when his contract ended last summer.

When people talk about players who have inexplicably stuck with a dumb Toronto club, I think Halliday, not Sundin.

@dowlingm

The Jays aside, how are the Leafs a "dumb" Toronto club? They are the most profitable club despite having little success on the ice. Seems like the smartest run business in the world to me.

Anyway, I loved Sundin and all but count me among the fans that are bitter about how all this went down. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want him to sign here. The last thing we need right now is a player good enough to help us get 9th or 10th spot in the conference. But why not wave the no trade clause last year to help the club? I know he was not obligated to do so but don't go on about how you loved playing here for the fans and you believed that the team could be successful. I guess the big payout was all that really mattered in the end.
