Heroes and Villains 2008: The Vote

20081217heroesandvillainstease.jpg
On Christmas Day, Torontoist named twenty heroes: the people, places, and things that made our city better in 2008; on Boxing Day, we named nineteen villains that did their best to make it worse. We explained our choices, and now it’s your turn to pick–until January 5, you can cast your vote below for who you think this city’s biggest hero and biggest villain were in 2008, and we’ll anoint the consensus pick the superhero and supervillain of the year. For the first time, you’re also allowed to enter your own superhero and supervillain if you feel that our choices were all woefully inadequate (though you should definitely justify your nominee in the comments).

I can’t decide on a Hero, but Harper is clearly the villain of the year.

Well, I voted for Igor Kenk as Supervillain. Based on the comments to the Boxing Day post, I don’t think I need to justify my choice. ;)

I voted for James “Dimitri The Lover” Sears. How anyone could possible read the grossly homophobic, misogynistic, delusional bullshit on his web site and not come to the same conclusion is beyond me. And he LIVES IN Toronto, which was important in my choice. Harper at least has SOME redeeming qualities and Kenk is just a common thief who will soon pay the price for his actions, which will serve as a deterrant to other thieves (there have been worse criminals than Kenk over the year). However, Dimitri is permitted to spew forth hate unchecked even though much of it clearly violates Canadian anti-hate laws. Allowing his sexist organizations to prosper in our city without any intervention is very dangerous. For example, his “seduction student” “Pavel The Lover” is a very scary omen of things to come. I bet you there are dozens of these “lovers” harassing women around town, cleaved from yet intimately connected to the Breeder Borg that is Dimitri The Lover. It is only a matter of time before one of them rapes someone. Dimitri is not going away any time soon. Harper and Kenk will soon be old news. Back to my espresso!

The residential school apologies… there. that’s at least one redeeming quality of Stephen Harper. Also, he loves cats. That might not be redeeming to dog lovers.
