Building Awareness

20081110concretemixer.jpg
No apologies for the pun, but this is a concrete example of how to really get your message across. Forget pink ribbons, pink bracelets, and pink bumper stickers. What you need is a pink, twelve-wheel, ready-mix truck. St Marys CBM’s mighty Macks are usually grey, but this one—doing its thing at a construction site outside the CIBC on the corner of Dundas Street and University Avenue—has been repainted in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
For a hard-working vehicle, it seems almost obsessively well-looked-after. There’s not an errant splash of cement to be found. A woman passing by had obviously seen the truck before and was excited to come across it again. “There it is!” she told her friend. “My day has just been made! If only you had your camera.”
Have this one on us.

Wow, what a fantastic idea. Thank you for sharing the pic! :-)

I don’t know if cement truck really says “breast cancer”. Prostate cancer maybe, but not really breast cancer. But then again, if construction workers are good at anything it would be recognising breasts.

Heh they’ve been doing this for a while – last year it was Gazzola paving – they had a dump truck painted pink.

I think the best part is that some poor driver has to roll around the city in this pretty pink truck – no doubt attracting a good deal of ribbing in the process.

Oh right, breast cancer only affects women, and clearly big macho construction workers wouldn’t want to be associated with an organization trying to raise awareness and fight back against cancer. What are those silly do-gooders thinking?

  • David Topping

    Frankly, I prefer the t-shirts.

JustCari, if they actualy cared, they would be supporting Lung Cancer awareness. It does kill more women every year then breast cancer, you did know that right?

  • canuck1975

    Do you smoke, Gaulder?

  • Gauldar

Nope, I didn’t start. I didn’t have to worry about peer presure in highschool because I didn’t have any peers.

  • Svend

I wasn’t aware of breast cancer until now, thanks CBM!

  • friend68

    Cheers CBM.
I think not only are construction workers (stereo-) typically fans of breasts, but they may even be aware of breast cancer in men.

    Penelope Pitstop rules.

Gaulder, did we go to school together? I was peer-less too. ;)
