The Daily Photoist: October 22, 2008

Every weekday morning, bright and early, we feature a photo (or two) from a photographer in the Torontoist Flickr Pool. It’s our way of giving the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve.

Oh, Mr. Mailbox, you do go on!

Perhaps the asshole could have written it on his own forehead instead of damaging public property.

  • Gauldar

Yes, it has been a while since davedave has had a post on here to shake his cane at. How dare this delinquent deface a government fixture to complement a random passer-by. You shake that cane davedave, shake it like you’ve never shaken it before!

How will people send letters now that the mail box is damaged?!!!?11!!!!!eleven

  • davedave

If it weren’t for people like me who oppose this kind of shit, we’d have a lot more stupid shit written on a lot more things.
I love how the brand new buildings on Augusta that haven’t even been occupied yet have asshole tags all over them. I guess if someone had instead written YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL on them you guys would applaud.

davedave: Don’t worry, I think that their mindset is probably just a small, but vocal, minority.

  • rek

The old conservative ‘my views represent the silent majority’ shtick, eh?

  • PickleToes

rek: Respect for the property of others is not an inherently conservative value.
As for conservative views “representing the silent majority”: That seems obvious and tautological to me.

  • rek

I don’t think the majority of people notice or think about graffiti and street art and tags at all unless its pointed out to them or they find it on their wall. If and when they do, aesthetic and social connotations would trump “respect for property” phrase games.

I am a little late to the party on this, but davedave: I know the person who wrote this (as well as a bunch of others around the city) and I can assure you that she is, at the very least, a she. Also: not an asshole.
