Urban Planner: September 7, 2008

20080907planner.jpgNATURE: As part of the Junction Arts Festival, LEAF arborist Todd Irvine will be giving a guided tour of the Junction area and its various historic trees. The tour is presented by Toronto Tree Tours, in association with LEAF and the Toronto Public Space Committee. If you can't make it, it's worth checking out the Toronto Tree Tours website to see their premade, printable self-guided tree tours. Keele Street and Dundas Street West (on the northeast corner), 11 a.m., PWYC ($5 suggested).

PETS: Today at the PawsWay Pet Discovery Centre, there will be a behind-the-scenes look at dog shows. Professional show photographers will be present to take pictures of your dog for you, and several champion show dogs will be live in person to sign autographs or whatever it is dogs do. This is obviously a pet-friendly event. PawsWay Pet Discovery Centre (245 Queens Quay West), 11 a.m., FREE.

MUSIC: Amidst the TIFF and Virgin Festival chaos, one thing remains constant: Wavelength Music Series, which is happening again, as weekly showcases tend to do. Progressive jazz group Fond of Tigers is playing, along with Toronto indie soul group Saidah Baba Talibah. Sneaky Dee's (431 College Street), 10 p.m., PWYC ($5 suggested).
