The Daily Photoist: September 3, 2008

Every weekday morning, bright and early, we feature a photo (or two) from a photographer in the Torontoist Flickr Pool. It's our way of giving the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve.

i feel like a peeping tom....made to focus on Shortshorts

Great composition of hipster central: the oversized goofyish shades, the painful 70s gym shorts which American Apparel reanimated, the men's watch suited for the Boogie Nights era, the scrappy face and hat that passes for "sophisticated" in this particular day and age. They look almost sponsored to dress that way.

It really is a great shot, excellent composition and smart use of depth of field. It's only cringeworthy that this is in 2008 and not, say, 1980. Then again, were it 1980, her shorts would be brown or red, and his shirt would be beige. But they're just minor details.

Lrn 2 urbandictionary: plenty of interpretive explanations on the hipster oeuvre there.

I was just thinking, "Wow, someone who can actually pull of the short shorts..."

And of course I meant "pull OFF" - damn typos.

If there's someone pulling off her short-shorts in that photo I must have missed it.

They look like a hip version of Tom and Katy. Nice shot.

its actually funny that she appears to represent everything Kensington Mkt's Pedestrian Sundays represent.

the hip sunglasses. the bottled water. the Joey Jeremiah boyfriend. the big watchywatch.

the more i look at the picture, the more i enjoy it.

She represents PSK? Where are her beads, tattoos, piercings, quasi-ethnic patterns, bike or baby stroller?

Thanks for the kind words everyone, i actually thought the picture from a day earlier was more "kensington".....

my fault. it was a typing faux pas. i sincerely left out the "doesn't".

if she represented PSK, then there is a whole new meaning to "gentrification"
