You know all that cut arts funding?

The Globe says at least $40 million of it is going to “2010 Olympic and Paralympic torch relays; the Road to Excellence program, which supports Summer Olympics athletes; and the Action Plan for Official Languages, which promotes bilingualism.” And here we were, thinking that filling holes in one thing by creating holes in another was sort of a bad idea. In other words, the current government’s funding priorities differ than yours. I’ll alert the media.

    The media already know.
They also regularly publish their opinion when they disagree with something the government is doing.

Anyone know what was cut exactly?
Also, I think I read that overall, under the conservatives, arts spending has gone up. For all the billions that are spent every year, $40 million isn’t all that much.
But whatever. For all the artists I know, I can’t think of any that get any of that funding; they just do their thing. (Excluding, say, myself when I used to work at the CBC… but I’d hardly call anything that comes out of that place art.)

we all know both sides have bee waiting for a war between the art kids and the jocks for a long time. Harper’s just giving it a nudge in the right direction.

Art is culture, so I’m not surprised Harper doesn’t think it’s worth supporting Canadians on that front.

Art is part of culture, not to be confused with actual culture, which is far deeper than art.
